Sometimes something seemingly nominal and somewhat off the radar has a disproprtionate impact, for good or bad. Such is the case with funding of public libraries. I would think some analytics expert could quantify what a dollar spent on libraries produces in benefits to a given community and the larger economy. But anecdotally the benefits are glaringly apparent.
Libraries are a lifeline for the economically disadvantaged. As many of us take for granted our mix of smartphone, pc, and tablet, the computer banks at libraries are packed. But it doesn’t stop there. Libraries are also packed with people needing a space to write, organize, think…..and even read a book.
This story out of Miami speaks of a temporary victory for libraries in the area.
