Obamacare wins, then loses

According to a story in the New York Times, health insurance rates are going to spike again in 2016. Unless the subsidies keep pace better with rate increases than they did this year, there is the prospect of many Obamacare participants dropping their coverage come next year.

It would be difficult to imagine this not playing into presidential politics. Even though the Republicans have been woefully delinquent in providing any plans of their own, they’re going to revel in the Obamacare price hikes. Open enrollment for 2016 begins this November 1st, almost exactly one year from the election.

But for Democrats it could get even worse…if the rates spike again for 2017. These rates would be made public just days from the election.
