Latest Hillary email story: Media/GOP hyperventilate, voters yawn

FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to Congress stating that additional emails relating to Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email system have surfaced. It has not been made known who the emails were sent by or if they contained classified information. Comey also wrote to Congress that he did not know how long it would take to investigate or if there is anything of significance. But, of course, this didn’t stop the bankruptcy expert from rapture, as he said this was much bigger than Watergate. It also didn’t stop his followers from proving they have more than a two-word vocabulary, as they chanted, “Lock her up!” And, oh my gosh, our great Republican leaders, the same ones who continue to back a racist xenophobe for president, are just apoplectic about the lack of propriety on Hillary’s part. But the media personalities are very, very happy. They had run out of things to say about this train wreck of a campaign, but now can look oh so serious as they ponder the potential impact of this, yet another, email story.

Meanwhile, back on the ground in America, there is a collective yawn. Seriously, who really gets whipped up over emails other than the Trumpettes and the worst group of politicians ever assembled by a major party? However, this email story does enable weak leaders, like Paul Ryan, a chance to kick down the road the question for which they have no good answer: Exactly why are you backing Donald Trump when you know he is unfit for office?

The email story will also be fodder for the pollsters to produce new metrics, even if little actually changes. Going into today, there were some wide disparities in various polls. So we already know a lot of polls are wrong. We’re just not sure which ones.

In the end, yet another email story, and indeed one that doesn’t even involve Hillary Clinton herself, won’t matter.
